The short documentary – It’s Their Life: LGBT Teens in Chicago – has been chosen as a winning film at the 2011 Media that Matters Film Festival, held each fall in New York City. Media that Matters showcases short films that inspire action to an international audience of over 100,000 people in 130 countries. This year, only 13 winning films were selected out of almost 400 entries.
Free Spirit Media students completed the project as part of our partnership with the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting. The film encourages youth to be more aware and accepting of the LGBTQ community and to work proactively to become allies. Two of the young filmmakers traveled to New York City to accept the award.
