Alex Herrera

Alex Herrera is the Director of Programs and Partnerships at Free Spirit Media. In this role, she leads the development and vision for all Free Spirit Media youth programs, guiding the program team to align their work with the organization's goals and overall program design. A key part of her role is leading the programmatic partnership between BUILD staff and programs and the Free Spirit Media program team. She works to set structures and guidelines for developing and refining programs, such as the Teen Programs and Creative Pathways Cohort Program, and ensures all projects align with FSM’s theory of change.

Previously, Alex was the Manager of Teen Programs at Hyde Park Art Center, where she developed programs and defined their purpose within the context of the Art Center's contemporary art, resident artists, exhibitions, and public programming.

Alex is driven by her experience in youth development and advocacy. Her work is a testament to her passion for community arts and youth leadership, aiming to provide young people in Chicago with access to culturally responsive critique and the tools to transform their own artistry.
