Alycia is a multidisciplinary artist, educator, and cultural organizer from Chicago’s South Side. Her work centers storytelling as a tool for resistance, healing, and community empowerment, with a particular focus on global Black history and liberation. Her artistic practice spans writing, spoken word, visual art, performance, documentary filmmaking, and photography. Alycia’s current role is story editor at Free Spirit, where she is responsible for cultivating the literary world of the podcast lab series. Before the Podcast Lab, Alycia served as the Teen Arts Council Instructor at the University of Chicago’s Arts and Public Life and focused on teen development through social justice centered art creation. She’s the founder of Undoing Our Erasure, developing arts and political education programs, and the director of “What’s My School Worth?” a mixed-media project examining the lasting impact of the 2013 Chicago Public Schools closures. For nearly a decade, she has engaged in grassroots organizing, mutual aid work, and arts education, creating accessible opportunities for young people to learn, create, and connect. She is currently pursuing a double major in Anthropology and Black Diasporic Studies, with a minor in Documentary Film Production, at DePaul University.

Alycia’s work is driven by her experience as educator and freedom fighter and a passion for seeing global Black identities represented in a proper light. Alycia envisions a world where media works to disrupt harmful narratives created about marginalized identities.
